Description
Evidence of Cornwall’s mining history can be seen in all directions around the studio. Engine Houses, with their tall cathedral-like chimney spires stand out above the trees all over the landscape. There are around seven Engine Houses within a short walk of the studio. They used to contain steam powered beam engines, and were mainly used to pump water out of mines. They are like doorways to a labyrinth of shafts and tunnels, now closed up and hidden under the surface of the landscape.
