Description
This painting is based on many drawings I have made of the Poldice Valley in Cornwall very close to where I live. An area mined for centuries rich in tin, copper, arsenic and other minerals, once known as “the richest square mile in the world”. Now that nature has largely reclaimed the land since mining ceased in the 1930s, we are left with an eerie, almost lunar landscape – it’s scars; it’s ugliness; as well as it’s wild, awe-inspiring beauty.
While not slavishly depicting the landscape, in this painting I’m as much interested in what cannot be seen as well what can be seen; what is below the surface; what treasures still lie hidden.
Provided in an existing wooden frame.
